Do I require an International Driving Permit to hire in Florida?

Question

Do I require an International Driving Permit to hire in Florida?

Answer

No you don't.

On January 1st 2013 Florida statute 322.04 came in to effect stating that  non-residence full driving licences (paper and card parts) must be accompanied by an International Driving permit (IDP). However since this came in to practise the Florida Senate have amended the law again, so no IDP is required, please see the IDP timeline below for more information.

Although most suppliers will allow you to collect a vehicle without an IDP, if you are stopped by a police officer and you are unable to produce one you are technically breaking the law.
